Dizraeli
Having picked
up a string of awards as a slam poet (including the BBC Radio 4
Slam Champion and Farrago UK Slam Champion) and made his name on
stages around the world as front man for the hip hop band Bad
Scientist, rapper, singer and multi- instrumentalist Dizraeli
has gone solo to craft his very own album.
'Engurland
(City Shanties)' draws on sea shanties, gospel and blues to
create a form of hip hop that speak for the streets and the
valleys in equal measures: a folk music for the 21st
century, telling English stories of love and grief and defiance:
'Revitalizing,
invigorating, stimulating... UK Hip Hop has not seen anything
quite like this before.'

The album also
marks the birth of a new band, The Small Gods- a blindingly
gifted set of musicians featuring the steel-string genius of
composer- guitarist Lee Westwood , the voice of Cate Ferris (who
has worked extensively with Martha Tilson), and the astonishing
Bellatrix (Female Beatbox World Champion) on beatbox and double
bass. Combining the virtuoso musicianship of old folk music with
the improvised wildness of hip hop, Dizraeli and the Small Gods
toured the UK in the autumn of 2009. They raised smiles, knees
and eyebrows from London's Cargo to the Eden Project, Cornwall: |
