George Stanworth

George was a double semi-finalist in the 2010 UK Songwriting Contest. He has also had a slim volume of children's poems published called 'Crazy Old World'.

George works in IT but is also a part-time 'Poetry Peddler'!
He is a regular supplier of Haikus, Cinquains, Limericks, Rondeaus and humorous verse.
George also grows his own sonnets, and is the man to see if you like your political satire.

Keep it (sur)real!

FLORENCE AND THE WASHING MACHINE

The Worst Cover Band Ever.

   They don't belong together.

They didn’t drum or try to sing.

They only put their washing in

             the machine.

                 How obscene!

   It cost me twenty pound

     to hear their sound

       and see their smalls

         spin around and around

             and around.

It was as dull as ovaltine

Or Sage Against the Fruit Machine.

THE SIT-DOWN STAND-UP

The drunk, moronic comic

sat down to do his set;

heckled all the audience

and gestured as he left.

Most remained and cheered,

whilst those who stood and jeered

failed to see the irony!
