Scrubberjack (Jackie Smallridge)

I am a performance poet and my persona is Scrubberjack as i thought it was original as i am a cleaner and my name is Jackie. 

I wrote my first piece of poetry while at work and found for a month the verses just flowed i write about the world i live in and found myself captervating an audience i found it funny but i got a great buzz from seeing their faces as i say the poetry the way i hear people speak. Expressing the street lanuage without airs and Graces. 

I was lucky to be at the right place at the right time and someone took a chance and published 25 pieces of my work and i also had a small documentry made about me it was filmed on my estate and was shown at the Herbert Art Gallery in Covetry as Part of the Litriture week and also was shown round different short film venues.

My biggest thrill was supporting Linton Kwensi Johnson at the Godiva Festival and also giving those kids from my background some hope to say just say it as it is as i was told that my work would never get out there and i proved them wrong
