Rob Barratt

Rob Barratt is a Bodmin-based comic poet and singer who has established himself in the South West as a writer and performer of pithy poems and silly songs. Rob spends a lot of time in a place he calls “Planet Barratt” but occasionally he comes down to Earth to entertain audiences. In his book "Men from Mars In Bumping Cars" Rob deals with such important topics as second homes, lizards invading Cornwall, Jordan's boob jobs, being happily non-Celtic and why he doesn't want to swim with dolphins.

Hello! I've been peforming in some way on and off all my life, mostly as a singer but it's only in the last few years that I've started writing and performing as a stand-up poet/singer. Mostly I've performed at folk clubs, folk festivals, cabaret settings, theatres and literary festivals. I love performing and have loads of energy. I get a real buzz from making an audience laugh/groan/clap..... In 2009 I compered the cabaret stage at the Port Eliot Festival in Cornwall, which was a great experience. In 2010 I had my own show at the St Ives Literature Festival in May and was in a two-person stand-up poetry show called "Outspoken" with Jackie Juno at the Theatrefest in Barnstaple in June. In 2010 I was also on the bill at the Warwick Folk Festival in July and at the Wadebridge Folk Festival in August supporting Blabbermouth and doing my own show. I also published my first book "Men From Mars In Bumping Cars". It's a book of my stand-up poetry material on the page with illustrations by Mike Jelly. If you would like a copy please email me on this site or at rbarratt@cooptel.net. I've got some video clips up on youtube and this Myspace site from my appearances at at The Barbican Theatre, Plymouth, The Poly Theatre, Falmouth and from Wadebridge Folk Festival. I live in Bodmin and teach full-time at a special school in Plymouth for children with speech, language and communication difficulties. But I'm retiring from full-time teaching in July 2011 so I'll be avaiable for gigs any time from September onwards!!! This summer I'm on the bill at the Warwick Folk Festival, Broadstairs Folkweek and the Ventnor Fringe Festival. Other performances are in my "Shows and Events" area on this site if you want to know where I'm going to be and when.
