Stephen M Patmore was unenviably born and brought up on the
pitiful, violent streets of Walthamstow, East London. He started
scribing at the age of 12 but recently put pen back to pad,
after a 10 year pause, whilst cycling to his previously crud
filled caretaker job on a scummy council estate in Watford. He
composed his first piece of the decade, after almost being run
over by “some c*** in a car” and this set the tone for the rest
of his coming work.
No
sooner had he re-entered the poetry and spoken word scene,
Stephen was awarded a Bang Said the Gun Award at the 2011
Edinburgh Fringe so has clearly hit the page running.
PoetHairy, as he is affectionately known by his Rrranty peers,
has received audible gasps prior to applause from audiences,
with his dark subject matter. It not only reflects on personal
experiences and life lessons but also his interest in various
things like movies and comics. He has though, a particular
intrigue for humans and human nature; the voices they find in
their heads, the ways they choose to express inner anger and
violence, the bad things they do, the things that make them
uncomfortable and what they don't like to discuss.
Although some of his work touches on concepts that would be
taboo (if they weren't so unspoken that they hadn't yet been
labeled as such), he takes inspiration from everywhere and
everything; love and hate.
“My
life is boring as hell, innit...”
